Dive in Chuuk Lagoon
Join The Dive Shop in "Truk" Lagoon
Chuuk is one of the four main island states that form the Federated States of Micronesia. It lies to the west of Yap and to the east of Pohnpei and its capital is Weno. Chuuk state has a population of 48,654 people which are mostly concentrated around the historically significant Chuuk Lagoon. The Chuuk Lagoon, also known as Truk Lagoon, is a sheltered archipelago with mountainous islands and is fringed by a barrier reef which stretches for 140 miles (225km).
During World War II, the lagoon was the Japanese stronghold in the Pacific. Chuuk Lagoon was a base for much of the Japanese fleet; while the islands had been fortified with infrastructure like roads, caves and airstrips. In 1944, Chuuk Lagoon suffered a naval air attack by American forces. Known as Operation Hailstone, it lasted for three days sinking twelve warships, thirty-two merchant ships and destroying 275 aircraft.
Fast forward to today, Chuuk Lagoon is a famous scuba diving destination and possibly one of the best sites for wreck diving in the world. Weather is balmy with rains picking up from late April to August but it is still possible to visit on a year-round basis. World War II enthusiast will also be delighted with land tours available.

Diving in Truk Lagoon is an adventure you will never forget. WWII wrecks are scattered across 77 square miles. The wrecks are covered with life. There are over 300 varieties of hard and soft corals. On the outer reef you’ll find mountains of coral that stretch as far as the eye can see, and drops off into the abyss. Here it is not unusual to see pelagic sharks. The water temperature ranges from 82 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit. Visibility ranges from 30′ to 100′ depending on where you are in the lagoon and there is little current.
During your stay in Truk Lagoon you will find that the majority of your diving will easily be done directly off the Odyssey while we are moored over the dive site. Once you arrive and set up your gear in your own private seat and protected dive locker, you won’t have to take your gear apart until you prepare to go home. Your tank (air or Nitrox) will be conveniently filled at your seat.
You’ll find that the spacious dive platform (13’ x 6’) has plenty of room for two divers plus a divemaster. One 7’ ladder and an in-water elevator to help you out of the water where you can step up to the convenient freshwater shower to rinse off with. Just 4 steps to the dive deck and you’ll find the camera rinse tanks (one on either side of the boat). Past the camera rinse tanks are the gear rinse tanks.
For the photographers, They have a large, sturdy, 3-tiered, carpeted photo table for all your working needs.
