Cavern Diver

Ready for adventure? Learn the skills necessary to become a safe and confident cavern diver. The Dive Shop is the only PADI shop in Arizona to offer the Cavern Diver Specialty class with in-house instructors. Experience 1,000 foot water visibility! Swim through spectacular cave formations! Experience Xibalba, the mysterious and sacred Maya underworld! Dramatically improve your overall scuba skills!

The Dive Shop cavern specialty class begins in Tucson and includes books, three classroom sessions, two pool sessions, one open water session, and one land session. When students are ready, the week-long certification trip to Akumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico—the world’s top cave diving area—is scheduled. To enroll in the Tucson portion of the class, you only need to be 18 years of age and Advanced Open Water diver certified. To go on and complete the Mexico portion of the class, you need to hold the night, buoyancy, and nitrox PADI specialties. The Cavern Specialty uses your regular recreational scuba gear, slightly modified for the cavern environment.

To finish the certification, the trip to Mexico is customized around the needs, budgets, desired amenities, and schedules of divers. The Tucson class schedule will be determined at the first class meeting around the needs and personal schedules of students.
